By faith Abraham did as God said when he was ordered to go out into a place which was to be given
to him as a heritage, and went out without
knowledge of where he was going.

Hebrew 11:8

Sunday The Honorable United States Congressman and Rev. Emanuel Cleaver II spoke to living "outside the margins." And one of Congressman Cleaver's examples of one who lived outside of the margins was Abraham, who is the acknowledge patriarch of three religions. More pointedly, Abraham is the patriarch, respected head, of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Although I am not worthy nor do I intend to re-preach Congressman's Cleaver's sermon in this devotional letter I do wish to speak to some underpinning theology that supports both Congressman Cleaver's and our own Dr. Rev. Black's sermons.

You see, using the old "Negro" rustic vernacular, "when you know what you know." You experience a certain confidence in your actions. This confidence has Jesus as the guarantor and the Holy Ghost as the underwriter. This Guarantor is somebody who gives a guarantee that His father's house has many mansions and that he has prepared a place for us in heaven. And this Underwriter gives us an assurance that He accepts liability for all risks if we hold out even unto earthly death.

All that is required of me is for me to ignore earthly facts and substances that are seen and step out on faith. This stepping out on faith is not unlike the actions of Abraham who "went out without knowledge of where he was going." This same stepping out on faith blessed our fore parents to see a better day coming even though they were slaves. This stepping out on faith allowed our grandparents to fight for these United States of America in the Civil War, World War I, and World War II although they were in segregated units. This stepping out on faith allowed our parents to face; police dogs, fire hoses, beatings and false imprisonments because they could see that one day a Black man would shut down the city of Denver by simply stating that he accepts his party's nomination to be the candidate for the office of President of the United States of America.

My sisters and brothers God is good to both the living and the dead. Will you not trust Him?

In closing God help me step out on faith in Jesus name. Amen.
